Friday Fun-Time Rubix League – Round 1: Pokemon Stadium
12th Feb 2011
Some might say the N64 is a little old in these modern times of 360s and PS3s, but here at Rubix Studios, we love it. The platform was home to some seriously great titles, an obvious example of which would be Golden Eye, which was recently remade for the Wii.
The Rubix League will be starting with the beloved console but will grow to span a range of different platforms including many different games. The first choice was easy with the team deciding to test their skills on Pokemon Stadium... time to dust off those pokeballs!
Lets start off with a little first match commentary...
Ash VS Anthony:
After a previous battle Exeggutor is left with only 1HP, In comes Onyx also low on health to try and finish off the job, Exeggutor only needs a single hit to defeat Onyx and on 1HP it is crucial that it attacks first.... and he does but the strike misses, much to the dismay of Anthony... For unknown reasons Ash then decides to self destruct with Onyx blowing himself up and taking Exeggutor with him.
In comes Zapdos for Anthony and Kingler for Ash. Understandably Kingler is a little bit afraid of this giant electric bird and runs away, leaving what? Starmie to come into play to get hit by a powerful thunderbolt! An unfortunate but necessary sacrifice! Bye Bye Stamie, you will be missed!
Having mostly water pokemon remaining this battle is only going one way and Zapdos wipes the floor with the rest of Ash's pokemon!
That was quite the battle, but I think we'll stick to the highlights from now on, or i'll be here all night.
Ash VS Andy:
For this battle Ash chooses to use Pikachu, this seems like an unusual choice but perhaps Pikachu can do the same for Ash Canning as it did so regularly for Ash Ketchum. Surprisingly it almost did, killing off 2 of Andy's 3 Pokemon.
With Ash having 1 fainted and 1 spare, Andy brings out Rapidash as his last hope. Rapidash's speed ends up being a little too much for Ash's Pokemon, and saves the day for Andy. Bye bye Pikachu.
Sean VS Anthony:
Well not a lot to say here, Sean only needs the one Pokemon to deal with Anthony.... The Pimp slap and Kiss from Jinx wipes out everyone.
In fairness though... I would faint myself if she kissed me... Doesn't she look gorgeous...

Sean VS Kaiser:
Zapdos Ko's Scyther in a single hit, with Aerodactyle replacing him to take on Zapdos. Later on in the battle Arcanine melted the legendary Pokemon Articuno to a pool of boiling water to give Sean the win. Speaking of Legendary Pokemon which is number one? Well that would be Artic'UNO', with two being Zap'DOS' and the third being Mol'TRES'. Did you ever notice that?
Round 1 results show that Sean was Pretty unstoppable, his prize... the honorary title of 'Pokemon Master' and of course maximum points from Pokemon Stadium to go towards the Rubix League.
Here's a few words from Sean on his well worked but surprisingly easy victory: "Do I get cake?"
Final Scores:
| vs | Ant | Ash | Kaiser | Sean | Andy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ant | X | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Ash | 0 | X | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Kaiser | 0 | 1 | X | 0 | 0 |
| Sean | 1 | 1 | 1 | X | 1 |
| Andy | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | X |
That leaves the scores after Round 1 as:
| Game | Ant | Ash | Kaiser | Sean | Andy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pokemon Stadium: | 3 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
| Total: | 3 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 |
